    Business Review - Hamilton's Tavern

OK, San Diego is quickly becoming the Microbrew capital of the West Coast and I like beer, nay I am beer. I am a self proclaimed beer connoisseur, and am going to take it upon myself to tell you all about the latest and greatest happenings, brews and bars that San Diego's got to offer. It's a tough job I know...one that neither my wife, nor my liver necessarily approve of, but hey...somebody's gotta do it!

Love Food, Love Life 4

Business Review - Station Burger and Tavern

Food is a topic for which I am passionate, Love food , love life. Meet someone that eats food for sustenance alone and they are missing a critical component for enjoying life, or they are Dutch. In my little brain, restaurants come in two varieties, good and bad. All chain restaurants are by default in the bad category (Appleby's is in double default for the name alone). In this section of the SLOB newsletter I will attempt to "turn you on" to the great local spots that offer up something more...

S.L.O.B.™ Art 5
  • S.L.O.B.™ Art

Okay, ...here's the story. S.L.O.B. ™, which stands for Supporter of Locally Owned Businesses, or Support Locally Owned Businesses, gets a local artist involved, give them the spiel on the whole support the local guy concept and let them go. They create the image of S.L.O.B. ™ We get them printed into stickers, shirts, poster, etc. all of which you can buy on the site. We get a profile on the artist, set them up with a spot on our web site, set them up with a link to their own site, so we can promote the local artists. All of this to make sure we don't get stuck with a stale, old, dated logo. Cool huh?

About S.L.O.B.™

Learn more about S.L.O.B. S.L.O.B. stands for supporter of locally owned business. Sometimes S.L.O.B. is a call to action, "Support Locally Owned Businesses." Either way it's cool.

S.L.O.B.™ is the brainchild of Joe Grant, owner of Grant's Marketplace in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego. He’s a longtime advocate for preserving neighborhoods and the unique quality that locally owned, personality-driven businesses bring to communities. Joe saw a need in the locally-owned business community for a place where like-minded entrepreneurs can both see and be seen, share ideas, and promote their businesses. Rather than bobbing around in the sea of the Internet, vying for customers and competing with big boxes and chains that often have unlimited budgets for advertising, Joe wanted to create a community that exclusively highlights locally owned businesses.

"Locally owned businesses provide so much more than the services or products they advertise. My market is so much more than a deli, coffee shop, market. I can't list all the customized services I provide, there are just too many. Owners who live and work in the same community build special relationships with their customers."  ~ Joe Grant (meet Joe)

So, Joe created S.L.O.B.™ It's not just a web-site. It’s a movement--dare we say a lifestyle. As you browse the site you'll see that it showcases the uniqueness of locally owned businesses and helps people find the best locally owned business in their community. Take a look around! You’ll see blogs, Twitters, and Facebook connections, all of which provide visitors with the ability to extend their viewpoints to the community.

You won't just see us on the Web. Joe and his fellow S.L.O.B.™s are out there in the community spreading the word. Look for us at local events, farmers markets, and walk-abouts. We'll be talking up the best local businesses new and old, showcasing local artists, and hocking our cool, locally-designed S.L.O.B.™-wear. Now you know a little about us. We want to hear about you! We believe that at some point most people have had a memorable experience at a locally-owned business.

So, tell us about your greatest memory or experience at a locally owned business. We’ll post stories for everyone to enjoy. Winning stories win a killer S.L.O.B.™ T-shirt. So come and join us. Be a S.L.O.B.™
